I’ve owned a Logitech G29 Steering Wheel for almost a year now and in this article, I will share my own review about the product.
I chose the Logitech G29 because when I searched online for the best racing game steering wheel controller, I found two products which are Logitech G29 and Thrustmaster T300. The reviews on both products are almost the same as well as the price but I finally end up buying the Logitech g29 since it was easier to find an online store selling it here in the Philippines, plus the brand is more familiar to me.
Logitech G29 Price Philippines
I bought mine btw from Benstore PC. The steering wheel + the pedals cost 18,500 PHP, the shifter was sold separately and it cost 2,850 PHP. As I’ve checked, the price is almost the same as other stores like Dynaquest.
Installation
Installing the Logitech G29 to your PC or PS4 is so simple, you will be only connecting USB and power cables and you’re good to go. There’s no need to install softwares or drivers.
System Requirements
If you’re worried that your computer won’t be able to support the Logitech G29, don’t worry because it really doesn’t need a high end PC. What you need to check is the spec requirement of game that you’re going to play. If your PC meets the requirements of the game, then you won’t have any problem with the Logitech G29.
If you don’t have a gaming PC, you can get a PS4 instead which is a lot cheaper than a gaming computer. Personally I would recommend a PS4 to partner for the Logitech G29 especially if you’re using your PC as workstation, you don’t need to unclamp your steering wheel and shifter from your computer table everytime you’re done playing.
Playing or shall I call Driving Experience
I am so happy with my Logitech G29, it was 100x better playing racing games with a steering wheel than with a keyboard. If you’re going to ask me to compare it to driving a real car, I would say it’s pretty much the same but also far from a real car. And if you’re thinking about using Logitech G29 as a training ground before driving a real car, here’s my thoughts: if you have no experience yet in a real car, practicing on a steering wheel like this first would actually help you a lot.
The main difference between a simulator like Logitech G29 and a real car is if you crash into something, the damage on a real car is expensive.
The Games I Recommend to Play on a Logitech G29
Please note that not all racing games support steering wheel controllers. Here are 3 games I’ve tried so far on my Logitech G29:
Dirt (PC)
It’s a decent game but you are only driving on mountains or on tracks. If you like these kind of racing environments, then you should try this game.
Forza Horizon (PC)
What I like about this game is it has very realistic graphics, it has the best graphics among the 3 games that I tried. What I don’t like though is you will be driving right-hand drive vehicles, which is not what we are used to here in the Philippines. You will get confused because you need to stay on the left side of the road, you will crash into vehicles if you stay on the right.
Drive Club (PS4)
This is my favorite among the 3. Although it doesn’t have as good graphics quality as the Forza Horizon, at least you will be driving a left-hand drive vehicle. Drive Club also has the best vehicle handling among the 3 games.
Stiff Steering Wheel Problem
This is the problem I even encountered myself with my Logitech G29 steering wheel. It is very hard to turn the steering wheel, it feels like it has its own mind. When I searched online, many people had the same problem as me. The effective fix I found is to disable the force feedback on your game settings. Go to the settings of the game you’re playing, look for force feedback then lower or disable it.
Durability
For almost a year of playing with my Logitech G29, none of the parts has been broken yet. One tip I can give to avoid breaking something is to tighten up the clamps as much as you can because trust me when you’re at the heat of the moment you will be swinging on the steering wheel and the shifter.
Overall experience with the Logitech G29
I loved my Logitech G29 steering wheel overall, it met all my expectations and fantasies. It felt like I achieved one of my dreams when I was a kid. And I promise you it’s one of the best games to play with your friends, kids, or anyone in your family who loves video games. If you are not sure yet if it’s worth it to buy one, I will say go ahead and buy if you have the extra money for such things.
